Why Most People Smell the Same (And Don't Even Realise It)!

Why Most People Smell the Same (And Don't Even Realise It)!

The Familiar Fragrance Reactions

If you're someone who likes to wear fragrances, chances are you have heard one of the following:

"Urgh, I don't like that perfume/cologne because it reminds me of my ex"

"Hey, that smells familiar. What is it?"

"Omg, are you wearing X fragrance?"

And even if you haven't heard the above, someone has probably thought this about you if you wear designer or any mass-produced cologne/perfume. Yes, mate, I know what Black Opium and Dior Sauvage smell like, and you're not impressing me.

Why This Actually Matters

Why is this important? Not to be one of "those people", but it's because the fragrance you wear is an extension of you, and people usually remember what you smell like (good or bad) more than what you said! "Research shows that nearly 75% of our daily emotions are evoked by scent" - Rochester Midland. This is not something you want to take lightly.

Just as you get ready to go out in public (because you don't want to look like a mess), your smell is significant too and can influence how people around you think about you. It's like a nebulous signature that follows you around everywhere you go. If you want to be remembered (for the right reasons), but you smell like everyone else, one of your most powerful cosmetic assets is your scent, and it is definitely being underutilised.

How We Discovered the Problem

How did we find out that this was a problem?

It's because we went to the far corners of Melbourne to find out what people wear, what smells great, and what we can add to our fragrance line. And guess what? Everyone was recommending the same shit. However, despite this, the options were endless, which was really frustrating.

The Real Issue: Endless Options, Same Recommendations

The problem is that there are so many options out there, and everyone recommends the same thing. As consumers (and fragrance lovers), we all do the same thing: go to Mecca, Chemist Warehouse, David Jones, etc. and ask the salesperson what a good fragrance is, and they point out what sells the most.

Or we go on YouTube/TikTok/Instagram and see what other influencers are wearing, and guess what, unless they are into super-niche fragrances, they also wear what everyone else likes and wears!

Market Saturation and Predictable Scents

The market saturation is crazy, the big players are making millions by mass-producing colognes that are safe, popular, predictable, and, in some cases, very expensive. The small players are also being dominated by volume, so they largely go unnoticed.

What If Your Scent Was Actually Yours?

No, this is not a sales pitch. BUT wouldn't it be nice if someone could immediately recognise you by your smell, compliment you, and associate it only with you?

Wouldn't it be even nicer if someone could give you fragrances that no one knows (i.e. made in small batches), get massive compliments, last long, and be just perfect for you, the occasion, and the season?

At Inox Parfum, we've asked the same question and have been working in the background to resolve this issue. Don't worry, we've got you guys ;). Just keep in tune with us as we have big things planned!
